Another visit to Bush Lake Park

I stopped by Bush Lake Park on the way home yesterday. Had to get some practice in. We’re heading off to the Netherlands and Switzerland tomorrow. Should be fun. I hope to bring back several really good pictures from that trip. I plan on focusing on photography quite a bit. Taking all the gear and plan to use the tripod as often as possible.

Taken at Lake Minnetonka park. Took the dog there. It’s been a long time since we have been there.

This was sitting there in the sun on a mostly overcast day. I liked the lines, the shadows and the contrast.

A colorful picture of a butterfly. Taken in very bright sunlight with a Canon 28-75mm lens all the way in to 75mm. 1/4000 second at F2.8 ISO 100.

A flower photoshoot

I decided to stop at the flower shop and pick up some test subjects. We picked up a few flowers and a couple of vases for a photo shoot.

I set up with a black backdrop on a table, pointed a couple of shop lights using “daylight” bulbs at the flowers and shot from various angles and with various apertures. I used my Tamron 2.8 lens. These three turned out the best in decreasing order.

The first one here I put a couple of lights towards the back to get a glow and used a front light to get the detail. I pulled the flower out of the background and replaced it with a solid black.

Believe it or not, this one is on the background as shot. I turned off all but one light, shot from above and had a wide open aperture.

I’m not so sure I like this last one. The flowers are a bit too small for the vase and I did not feather the selection enough so the flowers are a bit sharp against the background.

Colorful Old Barn

This is a barn that I drive by frequently. I hadn’t noticed the colors and general look of it until I passed by in the early morning just after the sun came up.

I shot this with my standard Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 lens with a circular polarizer (which explains the deep blue sky).

I just love this barn with holes in it, the roof sagging and falling, the overgrowth and the lines of the planting drawing your eye towards the big hole in the corner of the red outcropping on this barn.

Woody Woodpecker

First off, I promise not all of my pictures will be of birds!

I saw this big guy fly right over my head, very close to my head, actually. Luckily, he decided to have lunch on a tree close to our house. I was able to get inside and get the camera while he was still eating. Not a bad shot overall.

Bald Eagle – Part II

Here is another picture of one of the eagles mentioned yesterday. I have several very good pictures but they are all variations on these. I have to go back and see if I can get a picture of them sitting in the tree. That was beautiful.

Bald Eagle

As we were driving home today from some running, we saw a pair of bald eagles sitting in a tree. HUGE eagles sitting in a tree. I got turned around, stopped, got on the Canon 75-200 F/2.8 L lens. As I was walking towards them, they took off. I’m not sure if they were hungry or I spooked them. Either way, they took off quickly.

This is the first shot I got off before they went too far away. There are several others. I hope to get a few more posted shortly. The detail in this one at full size is incredible. The claw underneath, the curve of the beak, the individual feathers. Awesome!

Daytime moon

There is something about the moon during the day. We were walking the dog when I saw this one.

A little further on, it got better….
